SUPPORTING OUR FRIEND AND LOCAL FOOD CHAMPION – AMY GLASS
CO-OWNER, LUCILLE’S KITCHEN GARDEN AND CO-FOUNDER MIDWEST PANTRY
MIDWEST PANTRY and local food creators join forces to host “KICK CANCER – BUY JAM”
The “Kick Cancer, Buy Jam” events have been created as celebrations of local food featuring your favorite farmers’ market producers, various jam bands, and Lucille’s Kitchen Garden jams and caramels. The intent from the sale of these products during four upcoming weekends is to help Amy Glass kick cancer by raising funds that will support the Glass family during this challenging time. As many of you know, Amy is an independent business owner and co-founder of Lucille’s Kitchen Garden with her spouse, Zoie.
Lucille’s Kitchen Garden has been in business for nine years. Zoie and Amy have methodically built the company, starting from its Mill City Farmers’ Market launch in 2007. For the past nine years they’ve steadily built a solid self-distributed, family-run wholesale business that this year expanded into regional distribution.
In addition to creating savory jams designed to be sold with cheese and cured meats, Zoie and Amy also co-founded Midwest Pantry, which is a member-driven organization of local food creators working to make Minnesota the #1 place to start and run a food business. Midwest Pantry offers an education series for start-up food entrepreneurs, networking events, and wholesale and retail sales opportunities, including the Local Food & Gift Trade Show. Amy has been intricately involved in the growth of Midwest Pantry, however, due to this recent diagnosis, her involvement is on hold.
After returning last May from a business trip to Boulder, CO with food community leaders, Amy and Zoie were stunned to receive news that Amy has an aggressive Stage 4 cancer that originated in her and has metastasized. She has completed five of six initial stage ‘killer’ chemo treatments and is no longer able to work.
To ensure that her family will retain its health insurance, Zoie is working to maintain Lucille’s Kitchen Garden, aided by a fleet of generous volunteers, which includes support from the ecosystem of Midwest Pantry members. We thought you would also like to know how to lend support.
